Lange Twins Winery Wrap-Up

December 21, 2009

The battle for 1st place in the A's

The battle for 1st place in the A

Thank you Lange Twins Winery for letting us use your venue to host Race #4 of the Sacramento Cyclocross series. We are already looking forward to racing at this location in the future.

What a tough race. Pictures The terrain at Lange Twins Winery was definitely challenging. The soft ground made the bike feel as though there were suction cups on the tires. It was a sure fire test of horsepower and line choices all day long.

We are in the midst of getting the points tallied up as we go into the fifth and final race of the series. This year we will throw out your worst race of races 1 ~ 4. The last race will be scored normally. (No Double Points) Any ties will be decided by your placing at the final race.

The course location for race 5 has been changed to Granite Bay Beach. The upside is we will not face any parking issues on the final day. The race is on SATURDAY, January 16th. Get your calendar marked correctly.

Enjoy the Holiday Season and try to ride your bike a few times between now and January 16th. :)

Awesome venue! Thanks Rich and Lange Twins for a great race. Hope we get to return many times!

About the season points - dropping one race out of five? Bummer. How about rewarding those who have been dedicated to the series by counting ALL of their hard work?

Gordo | December 22, 2009

What’s with the Cat C riders who got 1st and 2nd riding dirty? They are fit enough to ride clean and win. Justin “the Michelin Man” could easily have had a good race against the Team City guy without crashing him and his buddy did not have to throw a road block at the beginning on purpose. Childish behavior, grow up and race clean!!!!!! Gordo

I have been racing cyclocross off and on for nearly 20 years. I agree with Linda Elgart, best course ever. I loved the racing, but where else could you go wine tasting, coffee and beer drinking, AND Christmas shopping all at the same time? The Lange Twins have an incredible winery. I loved the vendors who displayed and the crowds that kept on cheering. PLEASE keep this venue on the series. Robert

I agree with thebikenerd on both counts. Awesome venue and course on Sunday. All season has been great. I’m not a fan of throwing out a race though. There will be people forced to throw out a perfectly good score who get leap-frogged by someone who skipped a race and took a zero. People who were sick, sore, busy, or whatever but toughed it out to show up to all the races won’t get rewarded.

JJdoubleU and thebikenerd,

There was a lot of debate this year as to whether or not we should throw out a race. I the end, we decided that it was the most fair to go with a dropped race. I agree to the statement about people who are sore, sick, or busy but then there are also the people who have a mechanical, crash, or otherwise DNF at a race. I myself would be sitting in a great position right now if there was no throwout race as the people nearest to me have all missed out in the results for one reason or another but it just sucks too much to lose so much work in just a few moments from a total fluke. That said, bike racing as about consistency and maybe next year we’ll reevaluate the system. For now though the throw out is staying.

trudy | December 26, 2009

how can you throw out a race when someone did not pay for it ??? if it was a dnf becuse of mechanical or a crash but to not pay your fee and have that race dropped how is that far it takes 30 bucks from the ones who tried and ZERO from the ones who could not come…

trudy | December 26, 2009

As with the bike nerd. So many of us have paid our fees and our time, why should our lowest race be dropped. When really, all we could have done is not showed up and took opur 30 dollars and went on a date with our other half..as a points race where are all the races???

Maybe I should clarify:

Instead of a throwout race this is a series of 5 races in which the top 4 results are counted towards the omnium.

Rich Maile | December 27, 2009

Hello all- I usually do not comment on the opinions and expression of those opinions on this section of the website, I don’t like politics. But here I go. At Sacramento Cyclocross we try and do the best we (I, me) can do to have a competitive but more importantly FUN time racing bikes. I try and put the emphasis on participating in the series and not chasing series points at all cost. I do appreciate everyone’s efforts in winning races AND winning series overall titles, I know as I have won many of both. By having the format that we do in counting the best 4 out of 5 races torwards an overall title, my hopes are that everyone gets to compete for that overall title and still have room for some flexibility like a mechanical, sickness, or anything else that might get in the way. I know that the system is not perfect but it is the best I can do for this year and the previous years to date. As far as a “reward” for doing all the races, well, we always try to recognize those achievements too. I will be taking a poll for ideas for the future. Please feel free to make any suggestions at that time. Thanks, Rich
